Abstract

I will describe how cold atoms can be manipulated to realize arrays of addressable qbits as prototype quantum registers, focusing on how atom chips can be used in combination with cavity qed techniques to form such an array.
I will discuss how the array can be generated and guided using optical lattices and the Mott transition, and how microcavities can be used to enable quantum communication between the trapped bits. The talk will draw on theoretical results from my own research group and experimental results from that of Prof E Hinds, also at Imperial College.
