Abstract

The simulation of lattice gauge theory for the purposes of making QCD calculations is one of the most computationally demanding problems in physics today. Quantum computation offers potentially a method of simulating many body quantum systems efficiently. The simulation of lattice gauge theories on a quantum computer therefore may offer an alternate method for examining such theories. Techniques available for simulating lattice gauge theories are discussed together with some results for a simple lattice gauge model.
